Nature Power Mussels Biodiversity #1
Galicia Spain, 2022
Fine Art Cotton Paper framed on American Oak
Long Side 225 cm / Short Side 150 cm
Part of a limited edition set

Brief Caption: With higher protein content than many meats and vegetable crops and high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and essential micronutrients, such as iron, zinc and magnesium, shellfish have the potential to ameliorate many global food problems. This combination is particularly relevant to childhood malnutrition. Bivalves
can either be harvested in the wild or raised in the open sea and coastal areas, having minimal environmental impact compared to animal protein.

Brief Caption: An iridescent biosphere anchored on the bottom of the Ligurian Sea contains within it a small tobacco plant. The goal of this project is to achieve complete sustainability in the life cycle of growing plants by reusing what the sea naturally donates. Each plastic structure, called a biosphere, resembles a large balloon and holds about 2,000 liters of air. The biospheres are anchored up to 10m deep.

Brief Caption: The inside of one of the cooling towers. In 1911, Larderello became home to the world's first geothermal power plant. By 1916, the plant was able to supply energy to the Lardarello area and also to the city of Volterra. Tuscany is the place par excellence that, in addition to guarding "geothermal knowledge” has ideal characteristics for creating sustainable development through the production of electricity from renewable sources and the use of geothermal heat. Tuscan geothermal energy combines past, present and future in a story of innovation and sustainability that tells how an industrial activity can integrate with the territory, favouring not only its energy and economic development, but also tourism and culture in a model of "green economy" that combines productive growth and care for the environment.

Five giant heavy excavators, each with its own story, sit on a peninsula in the Gremminer reservoir that covers the abandoned grounds of an open pit mine. Ferropolis is a museum, an industrial monument, a
steel sculpture, an event venue and a theme park at
the same time.

Brief Caption: Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa located in southwest Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field near Grindavík and opposite Mount Þorbjörn on the Reykjanes Peninsula, in a favourable location for geothermal energy, and is fed by water used in the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant. Shortly after the Svartsengi power plant opened in 1976, runoff water had created pools. In 1981, a psoriasis patient bathed there and noticed that the water relieved his symptoms, and the lagoon later became popular. In 1987 bathing facilities were opened, and in 1992 the Blue Lagoon company was founded. A view of one of the formations outside the perimeter now included in the Blue Lagoon can be seen here.
